  • The selfish gene wins

Little did I realise when I started reading The Selfish Gene a couple of days back that Mr. Dawkins would be the man of the year 2006.

You can read a very interesting piece by him on God, titled “Why There Almost Certainly Is No God” here.

Meanwhile you can also check out the computer config on the top of my wishlist here. Only if someone could replace the Quad G5s with Quad-Quad Core Intels 🙂

  • New Year Resolution

Resolutions, because there are two of them.

    1. Truth – I am not a big fan of total truth, I think it is way over rated, but I will try to experiment it out this year.

    2. Happiness – I will try to be totally happy throughout the year.

So here you have my list. Any on yours?

  • We don’t give a damn!!

Hugh Macleod, of Gaping Void fame, has put up this “Nobody Cares” manifesto by Dennis Howlett. I agree with all of it, but find the below mentioned points very relevant.

    * Adding value is the most important thing you have to do – nobody believes you. Clients can read a 1,000 websites and see that same vacuuous statement. Stuff your website with client stories, preferably written by clients and not some PR outfit.

    * We work hard to earn letters behind our names – nobody cares. Importance isn’t derived from academic achievement but what you do for others.

Reminds me of the farewell mail of a dear friend who left the company for greener pastures. He asked in a company townhall, what is “Quality” and “Adding Value” which the management keeps talking about?? And no one had an answer!!

Maybe they should read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

  • Happy New Year

    Hi,

Happy New Year 2007. Have a great new year. May you get everything you want (and what you need) in the new year!!

PS: This was the mail I sent out to most friends and colleagues.

  • Perspective

Confused points to this quote from Stanley Kubrick on Schindler’s List.

“Think that was about the Holocaust? That was about success, wasn’t it? The Holocaust is about six million people who get killed. ‘Schindler’s List’ was about six hundred people who don’t.”

This is from a review of the movie WTC by Roger Ebert. Catastrope does bring out the best and at times the worst in people.
