  • Gen Post

A lot has happened over the last week or so, some happy, others sad.

I turned 24 last week and was promised a Digi SLR (Nikon D50 or Canon Digital Rebel XT) from my so generous bro ЁЯЩВ Meanwhile, my blog has been getting quite a few hits for the lyrics of the song Kuch Is Tarah posted below. Thanks Atif.

Amongst other stuff, some crazy asshole killed 33 students at Virginia Tech. Suraj’s friend Ankit is studying there, and it was not before some anxious moments that it was confirmed that he is safe. However, Prof. Loganathan and Minal weren’t luck enough. May God bless their souls. George Bush (http://www.ericschwartz.com/ES_pages/clinton.html) still defended the right to bear arms under the Second Ammendment.

Only the names change тАФ And the numbers“, says Times of London while questioning why America still had archiac laws that allowed civilians to bear firearms.

  • WhoтАЩs your daddy?

With all due respects to the deceased Anna Nicole Smith, this one by Scott Adams is hilarious. He describes what Stern and Birkhead were talking outside the court after it was announced that Birkhead is the dad of Smith’s daughter.

Stern: You win, Larry. You have my full support.
Birkhead: Gosh, thanks. I didnтАЩt expect a lawyer to be so nice.
Stern: And IтАЩll also help you and the kid win the legal battle with the old dead millionaire guy so your daughter will be rich.
Birkhead: I donтАЩt know what to say.
Stern: Oh, and one more thing.
    Birkhead: What?
Stern: When she turns 18, IтАЩm going to shack up with her. This wonтАЩt be the last time she hears тАЬWhoтАЩs your daddy?тАЭ
    Birkhead: WHAT?
Stern: LetтАЩs call today тАЬround one.тАЭ

  • Corporate Blogging

According to reports, SonyBMG in UK and Ireland “has made it obligatory for all senior staff at both Columbia Records and RCA Records to start blogging actively.” The company clarifies, “you won’t be sacked for failing to blog“, but added, rather ominously: “If you don’t blog, it’s going to be frowned upon. Ged has made it clear that staff are expected to blog and participate in the community. He sees it as part of people’s jobs.”

Though I think it is way overboard and forces people to do stuff they shouldn’t be forced to, it also reflects how seriously the corporate world takes blogging. I wish however, that they changed “has made it obligatory” with “will encourage”. Blogging as a part of job profile – interesting!!

  • Tehelka goes bonkers!!

The newspaper has finally lost it, going wayyyyy overboard in its criticism of the Indian cricket team. As everybody else, I too am deeply aggrieved over the early exit of India from the WC2007. However, sad as it is, it does not call for total beration of the stars we all worshipped at some point of time. From their website:

Reputations aflame: Fans burn a poster of the self-styled (emphasis added) god of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulakr (sic!), following IndiaтАЩs loss to Bangladesh in the World Cup.

Does the reporter realise that more people in India love and till a certain extent even still worship this person, than those who know about Tehelka? And “self-styled”!! Please give him a break. He may not be the best in the world any more, but he is still good enough to be in the team. And for God’s sake, he never called himself the “god of Indian cricket”. It was us who gave him this status.
